Turn the tap off while brushing your teeth
Turning off the tap while brushing your teeth you will stop around four litres of water disappearing down the plughole. If everyone in England and Wales did this, it would save enough water to supply 600,000 homes each day.
Reduce water flow
Install a device that reduces your water flow - you can now buy water-saving taps and flow-regulating access valves. Install an ultra-efficient toilet that still operates effectively at low-flush volumes, saving around 30% of the water normally used.
Use tap water instead of bottled water
With temperatures warming up, avoid the temptation to buy plastic bottles of water. A better way to quench your thirst in the heat is to refill a large bottle with tap water and keep it in the fridge. If you are off to the park, take a plastic bottle with you which you can fill at a drinking fountain. This way you are not wasting plastic and you save money.
Keep your boiler cosy
Save up to £15 per year and reduce heat loss this winter by up to 75 per cent by wrapping your hot water tank in an insulating jacket.

Re-use and recycle your water

Re-use water for other purposes. Save rinse water, pre-heated shower water (ie. while your waiting for the water to heat up), and the run-off from roof-tops and gutters. This water can be used for plants or other household purposes.
